Newrys Oldest Building Desroyed
To Facalitate An English Castle whcih never existed

Sunday Telegraph On The Fake Newry Castle which was recently constructed out of the medieval ruins of Newrys Blessed Virgin Church circa 1140- 2009 The Telegraph Interviews Richard Needham the man who offically opened the supposed castle & and Ken Pullin, the secretary of the Ulster Archaeological Society.
This painted beam Corbel above which can be be seen today sticking out of the wall, wouldnt be typical of an Elizabethian Castle but Newry & Mourne & built Heritage experts call it a roof support ?  The mind boggles!  Queen Lizzy didnt support Bagenal !!  The real purpose of the stone is to hold a massive oak beam, the stone was carved by the Cistercian monks in 1157.  These beam holders ( usually 3 _4) are typical of a those in cistercian abbeys.

These  Newryabbey arches are now under cement.   2 0f these 1 at each side of the abbots door, led into the grave yard which is now the forecourt of the supposed castle.C  The 2 windows on the second floor have been cut to ribbons to suit the new reproduction 16th Castle windows.  Another arch here is called a fire place by Newry and Mourne's experts, the bottom half of this arch, LIKE THE OTHERS,really goes 10 or so feet below the floor, these in reality formed part of  the undercrofts) which in turn still holds the tombs many monks, some of whom were hung by the Bagenals and other such English undertakers.
Here above you can see one of the many medieval door archs & windows before and after their destruction, they are very
I was called anti English because of my work here, lol, not a bit of it, all my efforts have simply to do with whats right and whats wrong with Newry's History & nothing else. I have many Bagenal friends and I am even in contact with the current heir to the Newry dynasty. Many of the same Bagenals became great Irish fighters, many are Catholic and many are protestant !! so what !! & so there !!  These Castle builders could be seen as anti Irish and reclaiming holy ground at any cost ,wouldnt be the first time.

The pictures on the left  show some of the destroyed & or now hidden Newryabbeys structures.  Many these medieval Patrician & Cistercian structures were cemented over by Newry & Mourne & N.Ireland Heritage in 2006.  I have been studying the history of Newryabbey since 1996, and am intimately acquainted with the abbeys interior.  I was born with in the walls of it and I am emotionally attached to it.  While nobody could accuse Newry of being a city of beautiful buildings this once beautiful medieval abbey & its grounds or whats left them are now almost destroyed forever.  An ultra-modern Lidl supermarket, has also been built in the heart of the church, this seemingly more important than the monastic trail.  The so called castle is deeply unpopular among many of the citizenry, a quick glimse of our new poll proves this beyond a doubt.  Follow the above link please and sign out guest book, have your say  It may not matter to those who actually brought pathetic building about; but it does to some people who speak of a so-called ‘construction mafia’ that can corrupt all sorts of people including councilors to carry out work to what ever building as long as it brings revenue from the Crown or funders to the City.
